Welcome Martin and The Google Analytics IQ Test

So as autumn passes into winter (we’re already fed up of Christmas displays in the shops and it’s only halfway through October!) the SEO team also sees a couple of changes. We say farewell to our Dutch friend Nicolien (and her delicious cupcakes that fuel us through the more difficult tasks), but we also say hello to new guy Martin – joining us with a background of design and skills creating newsletters. He takes his first trip to the London office on Friday – talk about being thrown in at the deep end. I still remember my first time going down to meet the account managers. As a Yorkshire lad the idea of hopping rush hour tubes to get down to the Adfero head office was daunting enough, but not knowing what would greet me at the finishing line didn’t help. Ah well, at least he gets to travel back first class, and Gerry will be there to look after him.

Speaking of Gerry, I can’t write this entry without mentioning his result in the Google Analytics IQ (Individual qualification) test. As a team we thought it would be a great idea to get something that demonstrated our knowledge, so after weeks of watching through the GA University slides, the time came to apply our combined years of optimisation experience and dive into the test. Bearing in mind I haven’t sat an exam for 6 years (possibly longer for some members of the team…) the idea of having to pass a test at work was actually a lot more unnerving than I thought it would be. In case you couldn’t guess, we all passed with scores above 90% and that brings us back to the start. Gerry managed a high of 97% - which instantly led to a yelp of satisfaction and a print out of the certificate to go up above his desk. We plan to get Martin on board with the test ASAP, so I hope he knows what he’s in for :).
